 What to Expect
Horizon meets on Sundays at Cincinnati Country Day School
Thanks for your interest in Horizon Community Church. Horizon was designed to help you explore spiritual matters in a comfortable and welcoming environment. We know your first time at a new church can prompt some questions. The section below includes some of the more common questions. If you have others, please feel free to contact us.
How do I get to Horizon?
We meet at Cincinnati Country Day School at 6905 Given Road in Indian Hill, a Cincinnati suburb just east of the city. Click here for directions.
What should I wear?
We're more concerned with meeting your needs than with what you wear. Most people will dress in casual weekend attire, so dress how you feel comfortable and you'll fit right in.
Which service should I attend?
Horizon offers two different services on Sunday mornings, one at 9:15 a.m. and another at 10:30 a.m. Deciding which service fits your interests is up to you. Children and youth programs are also offered at both hours.
Horizon's 10:30 a.m. Explorer Service offers topical themes and spiritual questions relevant to everyday life. The Explorer Service considers questions like, "Who is God?" and "What is life all about?" The service uses down-to-earth teaching, upbeat music, and creative media to explore topics like parenting & relationships, world philosophies, decision making, ethics in the workplace, aging, and the search for significance. It's an entertaining and comfortable hour where you can explore, while being intellectually and spiritually challenged.
The 9:15 a.m. Worship Service is designed for those who are maturing in their faith, featuring more traditional expressions of worship, rituals and observances, monthly communion, and extended verse-by-verse teaching focused on specific books of the Bible. The service is a robust, engaging experience where the Arts meet faith with creativity, emotion, and reflection.
For an overview of upcoming topics at both services, click here.
What's available for my kids?
We have a kid's experience called IN for ages birth through 5th grade. The atmosphere is dynamic, safe and age- appropriate...and most important, it's fun. Kids love it! As soon as you walk in the building, look for the IN check-in table where a greeter or teacher will help you find everything you need for a great experience. For more information about IN, click here.
Teens will enjoy hanging out with other kids their age in one of two Sunday programs: CREW (6th thru 8th grade) or CRASH (9th to 12th grade). Games, music, discussions, and creative teaching are a big part of the student program.
What should I expect in church?
From the moment you pull into the parking lot, we strive to make you feel at home. Our greeter team will help you find anything you need, including a place for your kids, no matter what age they are. Please make your way through the school's main entrance and turn left toward the atrium area. Help yourself to some coffee and a bagel -- they're free -- and if you're inclined, say hello to the folks around you, or be anonymous if you prefer.
A greeter will hand you a program and point you toward a seat in the CCDS Theater. We also have balcony seating if you prefer. Inside the program you'll find a Connect Card; please fill it out anytime during the service. All of the information on the card is kept confidential, and we promise not to "spam" you or drop by your house unannounced. Rest assured, we will never single you out during the service. If you choose to jot some info on the Connect Card, please drop it in an offering box or at the information table in the atrium. You can also fill it out later at home and mail it back to us.
What are the services like?
The 10:30 Explorer Service is designed to be accessible, understandable, and compelling. On any given Sunday, you'll hear a mix of different musical styles from a live band made up of some of Cincinnati's top musicians. We feature Top 40, Classic Rock, and Christian Contemporary sounds in our services, and occasionally we'll sneak in some Motown, Gospel or Country tunes.
The creative presentation is often fast-paced, moving, and a bit unpredictable (we like it that way, and hope you will too.) You'll see movie clips, dramatic and comedic scenes, gameshows, brainteasers, and experiments. Chad Hovind, Horizon's Senior Pastor, is an engaging teacher who helps bring a practical understanding to real-life issues like marriage, parenting, finances, decision-making, emotions and faith.
If you're looking for more in-depth Bible teaching and traditional worship elements, you might prefer our 9:15 Worship Service. The musical experience includes a set of high-energy praise & worship music, mixed with traditional favorites, and times of reflection and prayer. On the first Sunday of each month, Horizon observes communion at this service, with an extended musical journey on third Sundays.
To get a sneak peek, you can view a brief video clip from a service or download complete audio messages on our Media Downloads page.
