BELIZE TRIP
Horizon takes a group of medical professionals, builders, and volunteers to Belize each winter to serve the families in Central America. You're invited to join the journey, Jan. 23-29, 2009. For details, contact jkirby@horizoncc.com or call 513-272-5800.
ON COURSE FOR THE FUTURE... Horizon Community Church has purchased 154 acres along the Little Miami River for its future church location. The land is approximately four miles from Cincinnati Country Day School and is the former site of Indian Valley Golf Course. The church is currently in the design phase, working with architect CDH Partners to create the facility. Read details here.

Parents, Be Empowered.
Sexual purity is one of the toughest issues parents face when talking to their teens. Learn to approach this subject with confidence at a Teen Abstinence Seminar for Parents on Sunday, Oct. 19th, from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. Join us at the home of Devinder & Felicia Mangat, 8680 Shawnee Run, 45243, for coffee and dessert. Special guest Cathy St. John, RN, CAE, a Suburban Abstinence Education Coordinator, will empower parents by drawing from extensive research of our culture, years of involvement with teens, and her medical background. Adult Connecting Event
Join other Horizon adults for the Hyde Park Square Art Show on Sunday, Oct. 5th at 1 p.m. This event features 200 prejudged exhibitors and includes works in painting, mixed medium, jewelry, crafts, graphics, fiber art, glass, ceramics, sculpture and photography. Meet in front of the fire station on Erie Avenue; look for Nancy and Kelly. Location: Hyde Park Square, 2700 Erie Ave. Cincinnati, OH 45208. Inclement weather will cancel the event.
Career Women's Speakers Series
Join other career women on Thursday, Oct. 16th at 7 p.m. at the home of Candace Grafton in Terrace Park. Please RSVP to Tom McKittrick or 513 272-5800, ext. 30. The speaker for both Oct. and Nov. will be Lynn Ruhl from Equipping Ministries International. Lynn will cover topics such as cultivating authentic relationships; breaking bad listening habits; and conveying warmth, empathy, and respect to create powerful personal connections.
Women’s Luncheon Rescheduled to Oct. 21st
The boss, the kids, the carpool, the husband, even your parents -- the
needs of others often leave you wiped out and searching for refreshment. Be renewed at Horizon's women's luncheon on Tuesday, Oct. 21st, at Kenwood Country Club. Our speaker will be Emily Roach, a life coach, therapist and radio host of "Life Matters" heard daily on 93.3 FM. She is a former member of the White House Writers Group and is a sought-after speaker. New Men's Groups
On Monday nights, a new men's group meets for a 16-week study on the life of Christ. Led by Tom McKittrick and John Tytus, the group meets at the church office in Maderia from 7 to 8:30 p.m.
On Thursday nights, join other men for a small group discussion of Blue Like Jazz by Don Miller. The group meets from 8 to 9 p.m. in Indian Hill, led by John Kirby and Tom Gill. Go to the Groups Kiosk in the atrium for materials and details, or contact Tom McKittrick at tmckittrick@horizoncc.com.
Women's Evening Book Club
Join the women of Horizon at the Women's Evening Book Club as they discuss the book Hind’s Feet on High Places by Hannah Hurnard on Tuesday, Oct. 21st, from 7 to 9 p.m. at Ferrari's in Madeira. Pick up a book and sign-up to attend at the Groups Table in the atrium. The cost of the evening is your dinner or dessert at Ferrari's and $5.00 for the book. Any questions, please call Laura Bell at the church office at 513 272-5800 ext 11. About the Book: Hinds' Feet is an allegorical novel by English author Hannah Hurnard. It is the story of a young woman named Much-Afraid, and her journey away from her Fearing family and into the High Places of the Shepherd. It is an allegory of a Christian devotional life and takes its title from Habakkuk 3:19, "...He will make my feet like hinds' feet, and he will make me to walk upon mine high places."
Writers Group
If you love to express yourself through the written word, join a group of writers at a monthly gathering at the Horizon offices in Madeira. The next meeting is Tuesday, Oct. 14th at 7 p.m. For details, e-mail Rob Carpenter.
Having the Courage to Change
Changing one's life for the better takes a lot of courage, especially for those who haven't always made the best choices in the past. That's the hard part. Helping Cincinnati women by supporting them with friendship and encouragement is the easy part. Every 3rd Sunday of the month, a group of ladies, led by Linda Charlton, meet at the church office at 5:30 p.m. and travel to a Women's Ministry Program - Having the Courage to Change. This program is affiliated with City Gospel Mission. The next outing will be on Sunday, Oct. 19th. For info, call Linda Charlton at 513 248-0787.
IN - CHILDREN'S NEWS
SPY CHASE
On Sunday mornings, "IN" invites your child to join P.R.O.P.H.E.T, a secret spy organization assigned to protect the Bible. All elementary school children are welcome as we track down the prophets of the Bible with music, drama, puzzles and fun.

CREW Service Night
On Sunday, Oct. 12th, Crew will meet at the church office at 6 p.m. and travel to City Gospel Mission to serve dinner to the homeless. We will be returning at 8:30 p.m. Parents are welcome to come and help serve, as well as be a driver for our group. You have 168 Hours in a Week -- maybe you spend two hours doing Church Stuff -- what about the Rest of It? "166" is offered each Sunday morning at 9:15 a.m. for all incoming 6th-8th grade students in the gym at CCDS. This new opportunity is much different from the 10:30 hour middle school CREW program. Its purpose is to help you develop strong spiritual and learn how to have an effective personal Bible study time and how to use your Bibles.
