READ THROUGH THE BIBLE IN 2012

As part of our goal to have our congregation read the entire Bible this year, we have found some recommended resources to help you do this electronically. Visit YouVersion, a free Bible service offering mobile apps, daily e-mails, reading plans and more options to help you study scripture.

ONLINE GIVING

By popular demand, we've made it easier for you to support the church financially by enabling an online giving option through the web. To make one-time or recurring donations to Horizon, go to giving.horizoncc.com and use our secure and confidential system. We accept electronic checks and major credit cards.

CITY GOSPEL MISSION TWICE A MONTH

In addition to our usual second Sunday serving opportunity, you can now serve on the third Monday of each month to help serve dinner for the needy individuals at City Gospel Mission. (There's no need to serve both days.) Horizon's Action Team meets at 5:30 p.m. at the church parking lot to carpool downtown. The team finish serving around 7:45 p.m. with game time to follow until 8:30 p.m. Children six and above can join with parents.

FILL A BAG, FEED A FAMILY

Horizon's blue bag ministry offers an easy way to help others in need. Grab a blue bag and a grocery list at the information desk on Sunday and take it on your next shopping trip. Bring the filled bag back on Sunday, and Horizon's Action Team will make sure it's delivered to a needy family or local food pantry.

February 10-16, 2012
Every February, Horizon's Belize Action Team takes a week-long mission trip to Belize, providing a range of services for needy families, including medical care, construction projects, and children's crafts and Bible programs.

Horizon's annual winter mission Belize Kidstrip to Belize is an opportunity for physicians, nurses, medical professionals, those with building and repair experience, and many extra people who assist our specialists with a willing heart. This team of nearly 50, all together, make a difference in the lives of others.

There are also many ways to get involved through financial assistance and donations of medical supplies and medicines. For more information, contact John Kirby, Connections Pastor, at 513 272-5800 ext. 219 or e-mail jkirby@horizoncc.com.
Belize Planning Meetings
Departure is nearing for our annual winter mission trip to Belize. Participants are invited to join in on Sunday, Jan. 29th to pack for the trip.
History of the Belize Trip
For those of you who are new to the Horizon Belize Medical Missions trip, I thought you might enjoy understanding the history behind this wonderful event. So here is a little of the history... Dr. Jay Logeman asked for permission for several years to start this trip. It was his vision and persistence that brought us to Belize in 2004.

There were 23 people on that first mission trip. They did village clinics in conjunction with St. Elizabeth Hospital, built a house in San Victor, and offered to do surgery at Orange Walk Hospital.

While the surgery team was not active for several years, the village clinic continued each year. The team asked the government to assign the same villages each year. This, along with other changes, has improved the health care in the villages. This year, our goal is to provide medical clinics in four villages. Along with the village clinics, we have added Vacation Bible School style activities for up to 200 children as we visit each village.

The house team has built houses each year in San Victor since 2004, and in some years they have built more than one. In fact, this year the goal is to build 2 new homes and provide repair and maintenance to several others.

Dr. Mangat, Dr. Logeman, Dr. Kerschner, and Dr. Devore returned in 2007 with a full team of nurses and anesthesiologists. They had hundreds of patients come to their selection day and performed over 4 dozen surgeries. This has continued each year since.

The Horizon team grew from a consistent 23 the first few years to 50+ the last four years. Additionally, the ministry has expanded to include training to other churches.

Currently there are five churches sending three teams. They will serve 12 villages through medical clinics, build houses, perform surgeries, and outreach to the communities. A total of 369 person-weeks will be donated to Belize at the end of this ninth year!
