ON COURSE FOR THE FUTURE...
Horizon Community Church has purchased 154 acres along the Little Miami River for its future church location. The land is approximately four miles from Cincinnati Country Day School and is the former site of Indian Valley Golf Course. The church is currently in the design phase, working with architect CDH Partners to create the facility. Read details here.

Frequently Asked Questions

When was Horizon formed?

The first public service was on Easter Sunday, April 15th, 2001. That service was held at Cincinnati Country Day School.

Who started Horizon?

A group of individuals and families mostly from Indian Hill, Madeira, Mariemont, and Terrace Park. The group grew to 100 or so before the first public service was held. Most are still a part of Horizon and all are happy to see how a small idea with lots of work, prayer, and faith grew.

What denomination of church started Horizon?

Horizon is not monetarily supported by or otherwise connected with any church or denomination. We are pleased that Crossroads Community Church relates to Horizon as a "partner church" by sharing advice and wisdom when asked. We are also a member of the Willow Creek Association.

Why the name Horizon?

All of us are at different places in our spiritual life, exploring what it means to have a deeper connection to God. If you've ever tried to walk or drive toward the horizon line, you know it's a continual journey. As we move forward, new sights appear and our perspectives change. The same is true in our relationship with God.

What is your Statement of Beliefs?

Every church must discern its individual scriptural beliefs, resulting in some personality differences among various evangelical bodies. Horizon recognizes that our Statement of Beliefs is a prayerful, human attempt to discern and summarize the riches of an infallible divine revelation. Our doctrine provides our framework for all instruction and teaching at our church, and provides an anchor during our quest to be relevant and gracious.

Horizon's Beliefs:
  • God is bigger and better and closer than we can imagine.
  • The Bible is God's perfect guidebook for living.
  • Jesus is God showing himself to us.
  • Through His Holy Spirit, God lives in and through us now.
  • Nothing in creation "just happened." God made it all.
  • Grace is the only way to have a relationship with God.
  • Faith is the only way to grow in our relationship with God.
  • God has allowed evil to provide us with a choice, God can bring good even out of evil events and God promises victory over evil to those who choose him.
  • We all live forever somewhere. God's desire is that everyone would live forever with him in Heaven. Death is a beginning, not the end.
  • The church is to serve people like Jesus served people.
  • Jesus is coming again.
